Bain Capital Private Equity has acquired Bugaboo, a Dutch design company best known for its strollers for babies and toddlers.
Bugaboo, which is based in Amsterdam, launched its first stroller in 1999 and since then has become a global brand. The company has just launched its latest design, the Bugaboo Fox.
In 2016 the company also launched a luggage range, the Bugaboo Boxer, which enables cases to interlock with each other and attach to a chassis.
Nigel Walder, a Managing Director at Bain Capital Private Equity said: “Bain Capital has a long history of working with founders, and of supporting the global growth of unique consumer brands. We look forward to working with management to support this iconic Dutch business and internationally renowned brand in its next phase of growth.”
Madeleen Klaasen, member of the Management Board of Bugaboo, added: “Our two founding shareholders have supported Bugaboo for almost twenty years in which we expanded from being a pioneer, creating an entirely new segment in premium strollers, into a global platform with a much broader product range. This change of ownership heralds a new episode in our rich history and we are looking forward to continuing this journey with a strong partner.”
Bugaboo’s management team will remain in place and so will the company’s Chief Design Officer Max Barenbrug.
