Private equity firm Connection Capital has invested £3.7 million in development capital in Kit for Kids, which makes health and safety-conscious mattresses for children.
Kit for Kids mattresses are sold in the UK as both white label and own-brand products through major retailers such as John Lewis, Mothercare and Babies’R’Us.
They are designed with breathability, temperature regulation, hygiene and support in mind and have won several awards including a ‘Which? Best Buy’ earlier this year in conjunction with John Lewis.
The business was founded in 1993 by CEO Jan van der Velde as a supplier of soft play and educational products and produced its first mattress in 1997. It continues to provide soft play equipment, furniture and flooring to nurseries and schools via trade catalogues sales.
Based in Kent, Kit for Kids also has operations in Norfolk, Europe, Dubai and the US. It trades in over 30 countries and has featured in the Sunday Times SME Export 100 list.
The investment by Connection Capital will enable the business to meet increasing demand from existing retail customers for its products and also exploit further growth opportunities in the UK and in export markets.
