Private equity firm The Riverside Company, has invested in E&A Scheer, a premium rum blending business.
Scheer specialises in sourcing and creating custom-made rum blends for rum brand owners. The origins of the business date back to 1712 and it has an inventory of high quality rums, cachaças and Batavia arracks sourced from 25 different countries.
The business has blending operations in the Netherlands and aging facilities in Liverpool.
Karsten Langer, Partner at Riverside, said: “Rum is the fifth most consumed spirit category in the world, and also one of the fastest growing, due to the emergence of artisanal and craft brands and an ongoing premiumization of the category.”
Carsten Vlierboom, Managing Director of E&A Scheer, added: “Scheer has been family-owned for most of its 300-year history, so it was important to find a partner who would respect this heritage while helping the company seize the current growth opportunities.”
