“We needed to add resource in the Executive Leadership team; together with the existing management team and investors, we merged our ideas and created a long list of requirements under four headings: Values, Team Fit, Opportunity, Skills. We knew it would be a challenge to find the ideal candidate, especially to fit to the company values and team. How Drax responded was firstly to invest time with us; they came to visit our office to dig into our Values, the Team and the Opportunity. They separately interviewed the investors and Executive Team, gleaning insight to the interpersonal dynamics. They openly challenged any perceived weakness or unseen assets. We took their feedback which helped move our thinking towards what was needed in a candidate.  Drax suggested an alternative fuller approach to a normal interview process. First, we held informal meetings with a small number of candidates. Two very strong contenders stood out due to their views on Values and Team. Next the two candidates were exposed to the company, and interviewed by the management team. Drax collected the candidates’ honest opinions on the Opportunity and if they believed they could complement and make an impact by joining the Team. Finally, the candidates presented to management team and investors their thoughts on the business and areas identified as opportunities/challenges, to assess their critical thinking and natural bias of focus.
